Job Overview

Position: Estimator

Reporting To: Vice President of Estimating

Work Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.

Location: Columbus, Ohio

General Summary

At George J. Igel & Co., Inc., the Estimator plays a vital role in achieving departmental objectives by executing estimating and sales tasks. Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze project documentation to ensure precise take-offs and consistent item quantities.
  • Collaborate with field supervision and Project Management, utilizing cost history from relevant software to determine pricing.
  • Deliver timely and clearly articulated quotation letters to minimize miscommunication and risk.
  • Complete bid forms with accuracy.
  • Pursue assigned bid projects actively.
  • Adjust pricing as needed based on negotiations.
  • Prepare presentations when required.
  • Engage with subcontractors and vendors in alignment with company values.
  • Promote Igel's capabilities by building relationships with clients and engineers.
  • Anticipate future work opportunities.
  • Identify new work prospects and respond to inquiries regarding potential projects.
  • Support Project Management and Superintendents with project-related questions and attend necessary meetings.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
Additional Duties

Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Proficiency in various software tools including Heavyjob, Timberline (Sage), Agtek, and CAD. Strong command of grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Ability to multitask, prioritize assignments, and meet deadlines. Competence in intermediate math functions and reading plans. Capability to identify issues and utilize an Engineer's scale. Effective oral and written communication skills. Maintain confidentiality and exhibit high levels of organization, detail orientation, and accuracy.

Qualifications
  • Two (2) or four (4) year degree in any field of study.
  • Ability to pass a drug test.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in civil estimating preferred.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • Must meet the company's insurance requirements for MVR.
