Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at Stony Brook Medicine. As a PACU Nurse, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care to patients recovering from surgery.

Responsibilities
  • Administer direct care to patients in the PACU, including administering medications and practicing infection control.
  • Develop and maintain current written plans of care for assigned patients, setting priorities to meet their needs and communicating changes in their condition to the Charge RN/Clinician.
  • Provide documented evidence in the medical record of patient/family teaching and their responses and understanding of the teaching.
  • Communicate and work effectively with other staff and departments to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Participate in unit or hospital-based quality assurance activities or committees to contribute to the advancement of the nursing profession at Stony Brook University Hospital.
Requirements
  • Possession of or eligibility for a license to practice as a registered nurse in New York State.
  • One year of post-licensure acute care nursing experience, or a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and at least one year of previous hospital acute care experience.
  • Current PACU or ICU experience and BLS, ACLS, PALS, EKG certifications.
Working Conditions

Working conditions may involve exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids, and/or tissue as well as other unpleasant elements such as accidents, injuries, and illness.

May be exposed to and be required to handle varying unpredictable, emergency, and crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.
