Job Overview

The City of DeKalb is inviting applications for the position of Experienced Law Enforcement Officer to create an eligibility list.

Applications will be evaluated on a monthly basis. This position will remain open until filled.

Important Note: Candidates must hold certification as a full-time Permanent Police Officer as stipulated by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board to be eligible for consideration.

Basic Requirements

The selection process for the Experienced Law Enforcement Officer will include oral interviews conducted by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. The process and minimum qualifications are outlined in the Board's Rules and Regulations and detailed in the recruitment brochure.

Applicants must provide the following at the time of application:
  1. Certification as a full-time Permanent Police Officer as defined by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
  2. High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  3. Valid Driver's License.
  4. U.S. Citizenship.
  5. No felony convictions or crimes involving moral turpitude as specified in the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Act.
Residency Requirement: Candidates must adhere to a 40-mile residency requirement after 15 months of employment.
