Job Summary

The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider responsible for assessing and managing various patient populations, including medical and surgical cases. The PA will work under the direct supervision of an attending Emergency Medicine physician, unless they meet the criteria for independent clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to patients in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and procedural settings.
  • Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops plans of care and follow-up based on diagnostic findings.
  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Provides high-quality and timely documentation, including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Performs bedside procedures as needed.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
  • State licensure as a Certified Physician Assistant.
  • 0-1 year of experience as a physician assistant, preferred.
  • 4 years of experience as a physician assistant, required for PA II role.
Work Environment

The Physician Assistant will work in the Emergency Department at Brigham and Women's Hospital, providing patient care on a rotating schedule. The clinical care areas include acute care and observation at BWH, acute care and observation at Faulkner Hospital, and urgent care at Brigham and Women's Foxborough Urgent Care sites.

Physical Demands

The physical demands of this role include standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, vision near and far, and repetitive motions.
