Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant I to join our Thoracic Surgery team as a Nocturnist. The successful candidate will provide high-quality patient care, work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team, and contribute to the development of protocols and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care, counseling, and teaching to patients in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.
  • Perform complete histories and physical examinations, order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests, and develop plans of care.
  • Order medications and write prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Document patient information accurately and timely, including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Perform bedside procedures as needed and first assist in the operating room or procedural areas.
  • Practice cost-effective medicine and demonstrate expert clinical judgment skills.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
Requirements
  • Master's degree from a graduate-level physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation and Review Committee for Physician Assistants (ARC-PA) or equivalent.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) must be obtained prior to first day of employment.
  • Current valid license or eligibility for licensure as a physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Current DEA registration and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration.
  • Completion of 100 hours of CME within each two-year period of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a high-stress, dynamic clinical setting.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative in addressing responsibilities.
  • Proficiency with Brigham and Women's Hospital computer systems, including EMR and Epic.
