Part-Time Animal Care Specialist

Department: Animal Control

Classification: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $15.00 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY

The Animal Care Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of all animals at Camden County Animal Control (CCAC). This position is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of all animal housing areas, adhering to the guidelines set forth by the Georgia Department of Agriculture and CCAC standards. The team is dedicated to providing compassionate care, daily exercise, and enrichment for the animals, while also facilitating adoptions and fostering relationships with rescue organizations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct thorough cleaning, disinfection, and sanitization of all animal enclosures and related areas on a daily basis.
  • Manage daily feeding schedules and monitor the dietary habits of all animals.
  • Observe and assess the physical condition and behavior of animals for any signs of illness or distress.
  • Report any health concerns or unusual behaviors to the appropriate management personnel.
  • Utilize effective animal handling techniques to ensure a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Provide grooming and gentle care to all animals.
  • Assist in preparing animals for spay/neuter procedures.
  • Engage in regular exercise and enrichment activities for eligible dogs.
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of all tools and equipment used in daily tasks.
  • Organize and restock all animal holding and feeding areas.
  • Ensure proper identification and numbering of cages and animals throughout the facility.
  • Manage laundry duties for soiled bedding and animal care supplies.
  • Clean and sterilize food and water containers.
  • Conduct daily patrols of the facility grounds to maintain cleanliness.
  • Ensure that all equipment is well-maintained and report any major repairs needed.
  • Facilitate communication across departments regarding animal care and health.
  • Set traps for feral and domesticated animals, ensuring safe release back to their habitats.
  • Maintain a work schedule of up to 25 hours per week.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
  • In emergency situations, all employees may be required to perform alternative duties.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of specialized training in animal care or a related field, along with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a similar role is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license is required.
