Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Head Start Teacher Assistant to join our team at Child Advocates of Blair County. The successful candidate will provide support to the Teacher in delivering a high-quality early childhood education program to three to five year olds in a safe and healthy environment that fosters child growth and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Teacher in implementing an individualized curriculum to promote the holistic and comprehensive growth of Head Start children.
  • Contribute to the development of an environment that enhances the curriculum.
  • Assist in promoting a safe and healthy learning environment, including supervision and awareness of the location of all children at all times.
  • Encourage independence in self-help skills and promote healthy habits.
  • Maintain current records for each Head Start child as per Teacher direction.
  • Provide activities that promote social emotional development of children.
  • Assist in the implementation of the designated social and emotional curriculum.
  • Provide overall positive tone for the learning environment and provide positive guidance.
  • Employ positive communication skills and provide materials and activities for creative expression according to lesson plan.
  • Use transition times for learning.
  • Identify, refer and monitor children with special needs.
  • Engage families as partners in each child's Head Start experience.
  • Support the implementation of school readiness initiatives.
  • Seek out and participate in opportunities to enhance personal and professional growth.
  • Assist in the daily operations of the facility.
  • Attend meetings and trainings.

Requirements:

  • Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree in education or related field; OR
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and a Child Development Associate credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential; OR
  • Enrolled in a program that will lead to an Associate or Baccalaureate Degree in any field; OR
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and enrolled in a Child Development Associate credential program to be completed within 2 years of hire.
  • One to two years related experience/training working with preschool children, preferred.

Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and will be expected to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements. The position requires the ability to work under high pressure for results and to adapt to a constantly changing work environment.

Personal Protective Equipment:

The position requires the use of latex or vinyl gloves.

Physical Demands:

The position requires the ability to walk for a sustained period of time/distance, kneel, sit on the floor, use both hands, use both legs, communicate orally, hear conversation, and use specific visual requirements. The position also requires the ability to stand, stand from a sitting or kneeling position, sit, lift up to 25 lbs., reach at high or low level, climb stairs of at least 2 flights, stoop, and repeatedly bend.

Travel:

The position requires the ability to travel to and perform assigned job duties at any Head Start center.
