Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Designer to join our team at BLDD Architects. As a key member of our Engineering Design team, you will be responsible for developing detailed designs and plans for a variety of buildings and structures, ensuring safety and durability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Plan, design, and facilitate the execution of structural elements for new building designs and/or building expansions, or renovations according to building codes and regulations.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with internal project teams to advise on suitable project materials, designs, and layouts, keeping in mind the client's needs, desires, and financial resources.
  • Technical Expertise: Calculate load tolerances and stresses for various structures, and prepare preliminary reports, designs, and drawings integrating engineering, electrical, and HVAC considerations.
  • Project Management: Assist project teams with designs, specifications, estimated costs, and proposed construction schedules.
  • Leadership and Guidance: Provide guidance and direction to internal team members and external clients throughout all phases of the projects.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: Modify new or existing plans as required.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform additional duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: 5-7 years' experience in steel, concrete, masonry, and structural engineering design or related field(s).
  • Travel and Work Environment: Day travel within the regional Midwest - up to 10%. Valid State Driver's License required.
  • Licensure and Certification: Licensed PE and/or SE in the State of IL and MO preferred.
  • Soft Skills: Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong work ethic, energetic, optimistic, and positive attitude. Attention to detail, with great organizational skills.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Sheets & Docs, Adobe Acrobat, and Bluebeam required. Working knowledge of AISC, ACI, and IBC preferred. Strong expertise in Revit and RAM systems or similar structural analysis software preferred.
  • Personal Qualities: Willingness to learn and desire to contribute to the team's success. Ability to juggle multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
