Structural Instrumentation Test Engineer

The Space Division at Leidos is seeking a highly skilled Structural Instrumentation Test Engineer to join our team in Decatur, AL.

This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience in structural qualification testing on large hardware with up to 4 million pounds of load.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assembly, integration, and test activities for space structures, systems, and hardware.
  • Test planning, test execution, scheduling, and resource management, with an emphasis on data acquisition system and instrumentation.

The ideal candidate will work in an office and test stand environment, and be able to ascend/descend stairs, work in a non-environmentally controlled test stand, and lift up to fifty pounds.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or closely related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience in the aerospace or structural testing.
  • Extensive understanding of instrumentation (strain gauge, load cell, pressure transducers, displacement transducers).
  • Extensive understanding of Data Acquisition System (HBM/HBK hardware and Catman Enterprise software preferred).
  • Basic knowledge of network and IT administration (IP address setup, user domain control, software debugging and updating).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to work well with cross-functional teams, design engineers, analysts, manufacturing, project management, and customer representatives.
  • Ability to operate multiple systems at once under high-pressure environment (data system and video systems).
  • Experience with MOOG Control systems.
  • Understand/operate video systems (Avigilon software and hardware preferred).
  • Understand/operate high-speed video cameras (Phantom preferred).
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills, and ability to work with multiple interfaces.
  • Experience in launch vehicle hardware and physical integration.
