About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Functional Safety Specialist to join our team at ABB Energy Industries. As a key member of our Process Automation team, you will play a critical role in shaping and delivering solutions for medium to large complex projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with customers to understand their needs and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Execute Safety Instrumented System project deliverables on time, within budget, and in accordance with specifications, standards, and safety requirements.
  • Provide consultancy services to customers on Functional Safety requirements and designs.
  • Design and implement Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs) that meet IEC61511/IEC61508/ISA84 standards.
  • Develop and maintain Safety Requirement Specification documents.
  • Ensure projects adhere to ABB's Functional Safety Management System and contribute to its continuous improvement.
  • Resolve technical issues remotely and on-site, both in the US and abroad.
  • Design, test, and commission Automation Enclosures, Control Logic, and Human Machine Interfaces with ABB or third-party Control Systems.
  • Develop and manage work plans, budgets, and risk assessments.
  • Develop management skills by mentoring entry-level employees.
  • Identify and implement process improvements.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering, with at least 3 years in Functional Safety or Safety Instrumented Systems.
  • Sound knowledge of engineering techniques, processes, and tools.
  • A strong focus on safe work practices and adherence to workplace safety guidelines.
  • A high level of self-motivation, curiosity, and a desire to learn about new technologies.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
