Job Responsibilities and Qualifications

As a Surgical Technician, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the preparation and sanitation of the operating room environment
  • Participating in the care and maintenance of surgical instruments
  • Working within a sterile field to support the surgical team
  • Providing care for patients throughout the surgical process

Key Duties:

  • Delivering patient care in accordance with the training of the operating room technician under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Preparing patients, instruments, and the operating room for surgical procedures
  • Ensuring a clean and safe environment for surgical patients
  • Managing intra-operative tasks and anticipating the needs of the surgical team
  • Assisting in maintaining accurate instrument counts
  • Overseeing supply and equipment management, ensuring availability and proper sterilization

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Prior experience or training in a Surgical Technician program

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent military training
  • Previous employment in Surgical Technology before September 1, 2009, may also be considered

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as per healthcare policy
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist must be obtained within 180 days of graduation for those graduating after September 1, 2009
