Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Nurse Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare staff, you will be responsible for providing quality professional healthcare to inmates and assisting employees during emergency events.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direction and supervision to Licensed Practical Nurses, CNAs, Medics, Registered Nurses, and RN Supervisors
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate education plans and programs for nurses
  • Establish collaborative relationships with operational leaders and staff on educational and professional nursing practice initiatives
  • Serve as primary instructor and coordinator for American Red Cross Basic Life Support, First Aid/CPR/AED, and Life-Threatening Bleeding Tourniquet Application
  • Ensure compliance with mandates and requirements established by the Department of Criminal Justice Services, the Department of Corrections, the American Correctional Association, and other relevant authorities
Requirements
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Board of Nursing
  • Knowledge of professional nursing principles and evidence-based practices
  • Knowledge of medication use, actions, and side effects
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize activities of a medical unit
  • Proficiency in standard computer applications
  • Considerable knowledge of adult training methods, curriculum design, needs assessment, and evaluation methodology
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified as a BLS/CPR instructor by American Red Cross
  • Certification in Nursing Education/Professional Development
  • Experience in an acute care setting
  • Correctional Nursing experience
