Position Overview

As a Precision Optical Assembly Specialist, you will play a crucial role in supporting engineers and scientists with moderately complex components and systems. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the quality and functionality of our products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance to engineering teams on components, devices, and processes.
  • Conduct testing, modifications, and repairs on electronic, optical, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Interpret and work from detailed wiring diagrams, assembly instructions, and engineering specifications.
  • Design and evaluate prototype assemblies as well as production units.
  • Utilize judgment to rework or rewire units to meet quality control standards.
  • Inspect and repair electronic, optical, or mechanical assemblies.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while guiding junior technicians.
  • Perform various manufacturing processes related to optical fabrication.
  • Adhere to written procedures and safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards in line with industry requirements.
  • Assist in onboarding and training new team members.
  • Collaborate with other departments to facilitate efficient information and material flow.
  • Monitor and achieve Key Performance Indicators:
  • Meet production timelines.
  • Maintain quality of finished products.
  • Manage raw material inventory levels.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory outcomes.
  • Effectively manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing operational conditions.
  • Promote and uphold the mission and values of Leonardo DRS.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of complex optical systems involving optics, mirrors, and beam splitters.
  • Experience with energy detectors, beam analyzers, oscilloscopes, and autocollimators is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of fundamental optics principles and the ability to inspect optics for surface quality defects.
Qualifications
  • An associate's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience is required.
  • Strong decision-making and leadership capabilities are essential.
  • Experience in handling delicate components with ESD practices is preferred.
  • Soldering and wire bonding skills are advantageous.
  • Familiarity with safe chemical handling is necessary.
  • Proficiency in various software applications, including Access, Excel, and LabVIEW.
  • Experience with MRP systems is a plus.
  • Good mechanical aptitude is required.
