Position OverviewAs a Precision Optical Assembly Specialist, you will play a crucial role in supporting engineers and scientists with moderately complex components and systems. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the quality and functionality of our products.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical assistance to engineering teams on components, devices, and processes.
- Conduct testing, modifications, and repairs on electronic, optical, and mechanical assemblies.
- Interpret and work from detailed wiring diagrams, assembly instructions, and engineering specifications.
- Design and evaluate prototype assemblies as well as production units.
- Utilize judgment to rework or rewire units to meet quality control standards.
- Inspect and repair electronic, optical, or mechanical assemblies.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while guiding junior technicians.
- Perform various manufacturing processes related to optical fabrication.
- Adhere to written procedures and safety regulations.
- Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards in line with industry requirements.
- Assist in onboarding and training new team members.
- Collaborate with other departments to facilitate efficient information and material flow.
- Monitor and achieve Key Performance Indicators:
- Meet production timelines.
- Maintain quality of finished products.
- Manage raw material inventory levels.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory outcomes.
- Effectively manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing operational conditions.
- Promote and uphold the mission and values of Leonardo DRS.
- Possess a thorough understanding of complex optical systems involving optics, mirrors, and beam splitters.
- Experience with energy detectors, beam analyzers, oscilloscopes, and autocollimators is beneficial.
- Knowledge of fundamental optics principles and the ability to inspect optics for surface quality defects.
- An associate's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience is required.
- Strong decision-making and leadership capabilities are essential.
- Experience in handling delicate components with ESD practices is preferred.
- Soldering and wire bonding skills are advantageous.
- Familiarity with safe chemical handling is necessary.
- Proficiency in various software applications, including Access, Excel, and LabVIEW.
- Experience with MRP systems is a plus.
- Good mechanical aptitude is required.
