POSITION OVERVIEW: The Lead Grant Accountant plays a crucial role in overseeing program and grant financial management, including the preparation of journal entries for monthly financial reports, generating monthly grant invoices, and ensuring adherence to policy and program regulations. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Senior Grant & Support Services Accountant is tasked with the preparation and documentation of journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and verifying financial records and transactions, along with various general ledger and accounting responsibilities. This role collaborates with all departments within the organization, encompassing research, support services, and the foundation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage all aspects of grant administration. Prepare funding draws, ensuring all necessary documentation is maintained to comply with federal regulations. Develop and prepare diverse reports for both internal and external stakeholders. Ensure timely preparation and review of grant billing invoices or financial reports for multiple grant-funded initiatives. Monitor account balances and support program directors in grant compliance and oversight. Manage, invoice, and track all state, federal, local, and foundation grants. Support the external audit process. Conduct trial balance account reviews, perform account reconciliations, and report findings to the Controller. Investigate and recommend adjustments to budgets and billings. Analyze program budgets and report on spending patterns, identifying opportunities for cost savings and financial management enhancements. Prepare deposits, scan documentation for banking, and provide necessary information to the staff accountant for general ledger recording. Close revenue subsystems for all support services, research, and foundation on a monthly basis: This includes generating reports and preparing journal entries to record revenue in the general ledger system; reconciling assigned accounts monthly; assisting with reviewing and posting Accounts Payable batches; and performing ad hoc analyses as required. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting or Finance

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience with a focus on grants, required 2 years of experience in public accounting, preferred Comprehensive understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Experience in not-for-profit and healthcare sectors is advantageous. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, with experience in complex spreadsheets and pivot tables. Strong analytical and accounting capabilities. Ability to meet deadlines consistently. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to collaborate effectively with employees at all levels, management, and external agencies.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to address practical problems and manage a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret various instructions provided in written, oral, or schedule formats.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Must interact and exchange information regarding patients with physicians and other departmental personnel, as well as outside agencies, while maintaining patient confidentiality.
