Job Summary

The Senior Grant and Support Services Accountant plays a crucial role in program and grant budget monitoring, preparing journal entries for monthly financial statements, and preparing monthly grant invoices. This position is responsible for monitoring policy and program compliance, as well as grant administration. Under the direct supervision of the Controller, the Senior Grant & Support Services Accountant is responsible for preparing and recording journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, verifying financial records and transactions, and other various general ledger and accounting duties. This position will work with all departments within the organization, including research, support services, and the foundation.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assist with the management of all grants, including preparing draws and ensuring all supporting documentation is maintained for the grant, including draw approvals from CFO/Controller, to comply with federal regulations.
  2. Prepare various reports for internal and external users, including grant billing invoices or financial reports for multiple grant-funded programs.
  3. Timely preparation and review of grant billing invoices or financial reports for multiple grant-funded programs, review account balances, and support program directors with grant monitoring and compliance.
  4. Assist with the external audit, including preparing trial balance account reviews, account reconciliations, and reporting on findings to the Controller.
  5. Investigate and propose adjustments to budgets and billings, review program budgets, and report on spending trends, opportunities for cost savings, strategic sourcing, and related financial management improvements.
  6. Prepare deposits, scan into bank, and provide supporting documentation to the staff accountant for recording in the general ledger.
  7. Closing revenue subsystems for all support services, research, and foundation monthly, including running reports and preparing journal entries to record the revenue in the general ledger system, reconcile accounts as assigned on a monthly basis, assist with reviewing and posting Accounts Payable batches, and perform ad hoc analysis as needed.
Requirements
  1. Bachelor's or higher degree in Accounting or Finance.
  2. 5 years of accounting experience with grant experience, required.
  3. 2 years public accounting experience, preferred.
  4. Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  5. Not-for-profit and health industry experience a plus.
  6. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and experience working with complex spreadsheets and pivot tables.
  7. Strong analytical and accounting skills.
  8. Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
  9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  10. Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction.
  11. Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies.
