About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our Surgical Oncology Department at VCA Animal Hospitals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with physical examinations and collect patient histories
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to compassionately interact and educate clients
  • Manage medical records, reports, and correspondence
  • Prepare surgical suites and equipment for procedures
  • Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures, including patient monitoring, anesthesia administration, and surgical instrument preparation
  • Monitor general anesthesia, which includes heart rate, end-tidal carbon dioxide, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and temperature
  • Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient status, taking appropriate action to ensure patient safety
  • Accurately document anesthesia protocols, patient information, and vital signs
  • Maintain detailed records of medications administered and any complications or issues encountered during procedures
  • Maintain accurate medical records and ensure proper documentation of anesthesia during surgical procedures
  • Flexibility in scheduling and multitasking capabilities in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborate with the veterinary team to ensure a safe and sterile surgical environment
Collaboration:
  • Work closely with doctors and team members to coordinate and optimize patient care
  • Communicate effectively with the team regarding anesthesia concerns and patient status

  • Assist our Doctor and Technical staff as needed with patient care
  • Maintain a clean work environment to maintain any infectious disease protocols, handle medical/biomedical and infectious waste appropriately
  • Maintain inventory and supplies for procedures and patient husbandry
Qualifications:
  • Current and valid Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and common conditions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Compassionate and empathetic attitude towards animals and their owners
  • Knowledge and experience with handling and administering different drugs and following safety protocols
