Job Title: Lab Quality and MLS Program Director

Job Summary:

The Lab Quality and MLS Program Director is responsible for the overall effectiveness of the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program, ensuring compliance with the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) standards for accreditation. This role also serves as the Safety Officer for the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology Services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Program Administration:
    • Oversee the organization and effectiveness of the MLS program, ensuring alignment with NAACLS standards.
    • Appoint and supervise faculty and instructors, facilitating ongoing professional development and performance evaluations.
    • Coordinate the review and updates of the program curriculum and instructional materials.
    • Receive and process applications for admission, ensuring a fair and thorough selection process.
  • Liaison and Coordination:
    • Act as a liaison between the MLS program and academic institutions, clinical affiliates, and other stakeholders.
    • Foster collaborative relationships with clinical sites to enhance educational opportunities and student experiences.
  • Evaluation and Reporting:
    • Develop and maintain program evaluation methods, ensuring continuous quality improvement.
    • Prepare and present reports related to program effectiveness, accreditation status, and compliance to relevant stakeholders.
  • Documentation and Compliance:
    • Grant certificates documenting program completion and retain final transcripts and certificates indefinitely.
    • Ensure all documentation related to accreditation, faculty qualifications, and program outcomes is accurately maintained and readily available.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Serve as the Safety Officer for the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology Services, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and regulations.
Qualifications:
  • Education Requirements:
    • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience:
    • Relevant experience in medical laboratory science education or a related area.
  • Certification and Licensure:
    • ASCP-BOC or ASCP-BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist.
