Position Overview:

The Procurement Specialist is responsible for acquiring fastener products within designated categories. This role involves sourcing materials, overseeing inventory levels, and ensuring profitability. The Specialist will assess requests, engage with suppliers, and collaborate with various departments including sales, quality assurance, finance, and logistics. Key responsibilities include evaluating pricing, quality, and availability of products, comparing specifications, and exploring alternatives to fulfill service levels, profit margins, inventory turnover, and other organizational goals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The following duties are essential to the role, along with any additional tasks assigned:

  1. Act as the primary liaison for suppliers within assigned commodity groups.
  2. Work closely with internal stakeholders to deliver exceptional customer service.
  3. Generate purchase orders with suppliers for product procurement, utilizing both primary and alternative suppliers as needed.
  4. Regularly update reports on unconfirmed and overdue purchase orders with designated suppliers.
  5. Facilitate inventory transfers between locations as required.
  6. Address and resolve discrepancies related to purchase orders and invoices, including returns and quality concerns with suppliers.
  7. Communicate with vendors to expedite product delivery or arrange partial shipments.
  8. Coordinate with inside sales representatives regarding customer supply modifications.
  9. Collaborate with the sourcing team to identify additional sources for products when necessary.
  10. Update cost and lead time records as required.
  11. Incorporate market trends, freight costs, and customer usage into decision-making processes, including acceptance of price adjustments on purchase orders.
  12. Provide support and backup to team members as needed.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:

A Bachelor’s Degree in supply chain management, operations, logistics, materials management, or a related field is preferred, along with three years of experience in purchasing or inventory management, or a combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of forecasting, MRP, supply chain, and inventory management practices is essential.

Experience with fastener and MRO products is advantageous.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly advanced Excel skills, is required.

Ability to learn and implement new procedures and technologies.

Experience with SAP or other ERP systems is preferred but not mandatory.

Demonstrated negotiation skills and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Ability to foster constructive and cooperative working relationships.

Strong problem-solving skills and effective communication of solutions.

Critical thinking abilities to evaluate strengths and weaknesses of various solutions.

Understanding of sourcing principles and demand analysis.

Familiarity with customer service principles, including needs assessment and quality standards.

Ability to set goals, seek information, and make recommendations with minimal supervision.

Focus on sales and customer service (both internal and external).

Awareness of overarching company objectives and how individual contributions support them.

A positive attitude and enthusiasm for the role.

A strong work ethic and drive for success.
