The Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC) is a leading organization in sustainable fisheries management. We are seeking an experienced Fisheries Economist to join our team. This role will play a critical part in shaping the future of west coast fisheries management.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work on complex policy issues, collaborate with experts from diverse backgrounds, and contribute to the development of effective fishery management plans. As a Fisheries Economist, you will provide crucial analysis and recommendations to inform decision-making processes. Your expertise will help ensure that the PFMC's policies and regulations effectively balance economic, social, and environmental considerations.

The starting salary for this position is $65,360 per year, with the potential to reach $100,708 based on education and experience. Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough analyses of socioeconomic impacts related to fisheries management decisions.
  • Develop and present recommendations to stakeholders, taking into account multiple perspectives and competing interests.
  • Collaborate with Advisory Bodies, other Council staff, and partner agencies to advance the goals of the PFMC.
  • Prepare regulatory impact analyses, environmental impact assessments, and reports to support the Council's decision-making process.
  • Communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences, ensuring clear understanding and informed decision-making.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in natural resource economics or a related field, or a multidisciplinary degree with a focus on economics and marine resource management.
  • At least two years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in economics or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including fishermen, scientists, policymakers, and community representatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize complex problems, analyze potential impacts, and develop actionable recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in natural resource economics or a related field.
  • Familiarity with west coast fisheries management issues and current research trends.
  • Demonstrated experience with inter-agency collaborations and multi-disciplinary project management.
  • Background in environmental or economic analysis supporting regulatory actions.
