SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the teacher or Instructional Leader, the Instructional Assistant directly engages with students to facilitate daily educational activities.

This role involves supporting the preparation of instructional materials and the execution of lesson plans. The Assistant monitors student engagement during lessons and provides additional individual or small group instruction as necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Instructional Assistant is responsible for delivering the support services needed to implement the instructional plan as outlined by the curriculum teacher or Instructional Leader.

Responsibilities include monitoring students during lessons to ensure adherence to the teacher's progress, reviewing and grading homework and classwork, researching information for curriculum, and preparing lessons under the direction of a teacher. The Assistant also aids teachers with classroom management, refocusing students who may be distracted, and answering individual questions.

Additional duties include assisting students with assignments and studies, providing further explanations or tutoring for individuals and small groups, and helping teachers prepare materials for lessons, ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are available and utilized properly by students.

Participation in test administration is also required.

The Assistant maintains individual student folders and records, administers, scores, and documents test results, and collects data on student performance while preparing correspondence regarding student progress or issues.

Attendance at required meetings is expected.

The Instructional Assistant supports the relationship between the educational institution and the community by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff. Confidentiality regarding work-related issues, client records, and school information is paramount, and adherence to Governing Board Policies is required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:

High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND some previous classroom experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Compliance with all federal and state educational and testing requirements is necessary.

License and Certification Requirements:

Possession of an active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card or the ability to obtain one within the first 90 workdays of employment.

IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Second language preferred for ESL assignments.
  • Ability to prepare and implement concise lesson plans.
  • Basic knowledge of the subject matter being taught.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
