Position Overview:

Join Petco as a dedicated and passionate Dog Trainer, where you will contribute to our mission of enhancing the lives of pets and their owners. As a certified professional, you will utilize modern training methodologies and positive reinforcement strategies to foster a strong bond between pet parents and their dogs.

Your Role:

In this role, you will conduct individual training sessions and group classes, providing valuable insights on basic obedience, behavioral management, and tailored training plans to meet specific needs. Your expertise will empower pet parents to cultivate well-adjusted and happy companions.

Career Development:

To become a Petco Certified Dog Trainer, candidates must complete the 'Dog Training Instructor Program,' which includes:

  • Stage 1: Dog Training Apprentice - A comprehensive 6-week program focused on instructor-led learning.
  • Stage 2: Dog Trainer - Manage and expand the dog training services within our centers, supported by marketing initiatives and access to internal resources.
  • Note: Experienced candidates may qualify for expedited training based on skill assessments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate group classes and private training sessions, educating pet parents on effective training techniques and fostering the human-animal connection.
  • Advise on and sell appropriate training tools and supplies to ensure successful training outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records of training progress and feedback from pet parents.
  • Uphold confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Collaborate with store teams to promote training services and assist with scheduling and customer inquiries.
  • Work alongside grooming and veterinary teams to provide comprehensive solutions for training clients.
  • Ensure a safe and clean training environment by adhering to company policies regarding animal care and safety.
  • Process transactions and assist with merchandising activities as required.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with pet parents.
  • Ability to handle dogs of various sizes and breeds in a safe and humane manner.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, to meet training demands.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks associated with dog training, including lifting equipment.
  • Familiarity with computer systems for managing training records and schedules.
