Clinical Nurse Coordinator Job Description

The Clinical Nurse Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care in our Mental Health Recovery Adolescent program. As a key member of the multidisciplinary team, this individual will provide clinical and administrative supervision, serve as a resource person for staff, and promote a safe and productive work environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide oversight of patient care and safety, patient, and family advocacy, and demonstrated expertise of the seclusion and restraint process.
  • Meet with patients and/or staff when patient is experiencing compliance struggles, consistently demonstrating support to patient and the treatment process.
  • Monitor staff to ensure efficient, safe, and productive work environment, including delegation of staff assignments.
  • Provide necessary staff coaching and support, under the direction of nursing leadership.
  • Oversee orientation of new employees, providing direction and coaching as needed.
  • Assist with admission and discharge processes to ensure efficient throughput and high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Participate in the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided in the unit, in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Identify and implement program revisions and appropriate unit metrics based upon patient and staff feedback as well as Performance Improvement metrics.
  • Support the efforts of the facility to improve engagement by operationalizing current nursing strategies, including rounding, incident reporting, and other initiatives.
  • Assist with staff scheduling, managing all practical aspects of staff labor in accordance with patient care needs and established productivity guidelines.
  • Support proper inventory control and assist with managing supplies and equipment.
Education and Training Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Registered nurse licensed by State Board of Nursing in the state of employment. License must be in good standing with the State Board of Nursing in the state of employment.
  • Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMH-BC) preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience as an RN within behavioral health preferred.
  • Previous experience working as a team lead, preceptor, or trainer preferred.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification is required within thirty (30) days of date-of-hire. Annual re-certification is required.
  • Formal training in management of the aggressive patient within sixty (60) days of date-of-hire. Annual re-certification is required.
