Summary: The Anesthesia Coding Team Lead is responsible for overseeing and guiding a team of medical coders specializing in anesthesia. This role ensures accuracy and compliance in coding practices, supports team development, achieves key performance metrics, and drives efficiency gains across the coding process.

Duties:

  • Lead and manage a team of anesthesia coders, providing training, support, and performance feedback.
  • Ensure accurate and timely coding of anesthesia services in compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Conduct regular quality assurance audits to ensure coding accuracy and consistency.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and coding requirements.
  • Develop and implement coding policies and procedures to optimize workflow and efficiency.
  • Stay updated on changes in coding standards and regulations, ensuring the team is informed and compliant.
  • Analyze coding data with PowerBI and report on key performance metrics to senior management.
  • Facilitate continuous professional development and education for team members.

Key Performance Metrics:

  • Accuracy Rate: Maintain a coding accuracy rate of 98% or higher, as determined by quality assurance audits.
  • Productivity Rate: Ensure coders achieve a minimum of 95% of the established productivity benchmarks for anesthesia coding.
  • Turnaround Time: Ensure all coding is completed within 48 hours of receiving documentation.
  • Compliance Rate: Achieve 100% compliance with regulatory requirements and coding standards.
  • Team Development: Ensure all team members complete at least 20 hours of continuing education annually.
  • Communication Efficiency: Maintain an average response time of less than 24 hours for provider queries.

Requirements:

  • Education: An associate degree is required; however, a combination of relevant work experience and education may be considered. A bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Five (5) years of experience in medical coding and two (2) years of supervisory experience required.
  • License/Certification: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Anesthesia and Pain Management Coder (CANPC).
  • Language Skills: Demonstrated ability to exercise professional oral and written communication skills with all internal and external audiences.
  • Computer Skills: Experience with medical billing software systems is required. Strong Microsoft Excel skills are required. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint is also required.
