Job Title: Nurse Practitioner Per Diem

Job Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing primary healthcare to patients and families, focusing on health maintenance, disease prevention, patient education, and counseling. This role requires a friendly, energetic, and team-oriented individual who is committed to long-term excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform physical exams on all age-appropriate patients.
  • Obtain and document patient medical history, identifying health risk factors.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat acute and chronic illnesses.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, procedures, and prescribe medications and non-pharmacological therapies.
  • Provide patient and/or family health education and counseling, referrals to healthcare professionals and community resources.
  • Treat patients and families with respect and dignity, collaborating with physicians and other healthcare team members to plan optimal care.
  • Document patient and/or family psychosocial issues, assess and document patient and/or family psychosocial issues.
  • Function as a patient and family advocate, consulting with physicians and/or other healthcare providers when appropriate.
  • Coordinate patient care, making referrals as indicated.
  • Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Stay current with medical advancements, new technology, and new drugs through continuing education classes, society meetings, and professional journals.
Requirements:
  • Current Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse License in the State of Maine.
  • Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or certification eligible.
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required.
  • Current ACLS Certification preferred.
  • Current PALS Certification preferred if caring for pediatric patients.
  • Current DEA with no restriction.
  • Strong computer skills, including EMR/EHR.
Language Skills:
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Additional languages preferred.
