Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health (ESOH) programs, ensuring they are updated throughout the lifecycle of various initiatives.
  • Propose and implement strategies for enhancing environmental protection, pollution prevention, and the management of hazardous materials and processes.
  • Develop detailed ESOH statements of work and data requirements for integration into system acquisition documentation.
  • Ensure thorough hazard analyses are conducted to assess how system operations and potential failures impact safety for both systems and personnel.
  • Oversee occupational health exposure assessments and incident investigations, providing actionable recommendations for risk mitigation.
  • Perform on-site testing and data collection, actively participating in ESOH Advisory Boards and technical evaluations.
Employment Conditions

  • Participation in the direct deposit pay program is mandatory.

  • This role may necessitate travel to various locations, including remote sites.
  • Completion of ethics training within three months of appointment is required.
Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or NH-02 pay band in federal service or comparable experience in the private sector. This experience should include: Identifying and assessing potential hazards and risks, and recommending appropriate loss prevention measures based on their likelihood and potential impact.

Educational Requirements

Applicants must meet the basic educational qualifications as outlined by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM):

Basic Requirements:

A. Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution, or
B. A combination of education and experience that provides a solid foundation in engineering principles.

Additional Information

Knowledge and experience in the following areas are preferred but not mandatory:
  • System Safety, including familiarity with safety review boards and risk acceptance processes.
  • Understanding of safety and environmental risks associated with complex weapon systems.
  • Experience with software system safety analysis and safety planning.
  • Knowledge of weapon systems safety testing requirements.
This position is part of the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
