POSITION TITLE: Welder

REPORTS TO: Production Supervisor

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for executing various welding, brazing, and cutting tasks utilizing both gas and electric welding apparatus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Joins metal components according to specifications outlined in layouts, diagrams, work orders, or verbal directives, employing equipment that creates a shield of inert or non-combustible gases, such as helium, argon, carbon dioxide, or nitrogen, to avert oxidation.
  • Installs gas orifices and threads consumable wire electrodes through portable welding guns. Connects hoses from designated gas tanks to the welding apparatus, adjusting knobs to set gas pressure, electric current, and electrode wire feed speed.
  • Attaches cables from the welding unit to the workpiece and electrode holder. Initiates the arc and manually directs the electrode tip along the designated weld line.
  • Utilizes a non-consumable tungsten electrode with automatic filler wire feed or applies filler rods manually.
  • Prepares workpieces by cleaning or degreasing them using wire brushes, portable grinders, or chemical baths.
  • Conducts repairs on broken or cracked components, fills voids, or performs equipment weld repairs.
  • Positions and secures components of fabricated metal parts in preparation for welding, ensuring proper alignment.
  • Inspects workpieces and measures dimensions for compliance with specifications using measuring tools such as tapes, rules, or squares.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating in English.
  • Strong foundational math skills.
  • Possesses technical education, training, or certification along with prior welding experience.
  • Capable of interpreting blueprints and utilizing basic measuring instruments.
  • Able to read and understand wiring schematics.
  • Holds a General Education Diploma.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 lbs without assistance.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, up to 8 hours.
  • Capable of bending, squatting, reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing, and walking.
