Avista is seeking a highly skilled Protection Systems Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Protection and Relaying department, you will be responsible for designing and implementing protection schemes and integration systems for our electrical distribution, transmission, substation, and generating stations.
Key Responsibilities- Design and specify protective relays and related equipment for our electric system.
- Develop and evaluate system fault studies to determine coordination and setting of protective devices.
- Design detailed substation integration schemes and specify substation equipment for remote control, status indication, and data viewing.
- Provide technical support for NERC CIP and PRC compliance, protective relay operation analysis, and fault studies.
- Participate in regional operating committees, task forces, and work groups as required.
- Bachelor of Science in an ABET-accredited engineering program.
- Minimum of four years of engineering work experience required.
- Effective and flexible communication skills.
- Common tool technical proficiency.
- Works with minimal direction.
- Power system knowledge or emphasis in a degree and/or ability to utilize engineering application software.
- NERC CIP and PRC standards knowledge is desired.
- Experience with SEL relays and protection schemes.
- Computer programming experience in languages such as SQL, Python, and VBA.
