Job Summary

As a Medical Technologist at King's Daughters, you will play a vital role in providing accurate and timely laboratory results to support patient care. Your expertise in conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses will be essential in helping our healthcare team make informed decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, to determine the presence of normal and abnormal components.
• Analyze and verify test results prior to releasing findings for filing into the information system.
• Perform quality control studies according to established protocols and routine preventative maintenance and equipment checks according to established schedules.
• Respond to queries from other members of the hospital care team, such as physicians, in a courteous and timely manner.
• Assist in the orientation and training of new laboratory employees.
• Maintain professional growth and certification as it applies to the responsibilities of the position.
• Perform STAT testing within established turn-around guidelines.
• Report malfunction of equipment and/or computer to supervisor immediately.
• Report test results that fall within laboratory panic values to appropriate healthcare provider and document efforts to report panic values.
• Bring unusual or remarkable findings to the attention of the supervisor and/or pathologist.

Education and Certifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.
• ASCP board-eligible to obtain Medical Laboratory Science ASCP certification or equivalent within 6 months of hire.

Working Environment

This role operates in a professional medical laboratory environment. Regularly works near moving mechanical parts. Regularly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection. Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands

Occasionally required to maintain a stationary position (standing or sitting). Frequently required to walk and move about. Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment. Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices. Regularly required to communicate with physicians and other care team requiring talking and hearing. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
