Job Title: Water Resources Engineer

Job Summary:

This position is for a highly skilled Water Resources Engineer to join our team at Barr Engineering Company. The successful candidate will have a strong background in hydrology and hydraulic analysis, with experience in water supply and aquifer storage and recovery, stormwater planning and flood control, and water quality analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic analysis related to water supply and aquifer storage and recovery
  • Develop and implement stormwater planning and flood control strategies
  • Analyze water quality data in mining, urban, and rural settings
  • Prepare technical reports, plans, and specifications for water resources projects
  • Design and develop utility systems for water resources projects
  • Model groundwater flow and contaminant transport
  • Develop and implement green infrastructure solutions for water resources projects
  • Conduct engineering calculations and review clients' projects related to water rights
  • Work with clients, permitting agencies, and public officials to develop and implement water resources projects

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering with a focus on water resources
  • 10 years of experience in water resources engineering with a focus on hydrology, hydraulics, and/or water quality
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification
  • Project management experience
  • Experience with water resources challenges such as aquifer storage and recovery, stormwater management and flood control, precipitation and flooding data analysis, bank stabilization and stream restoration, floodplain analysis and mapping, snowpack hydrology, and western water law
  • Familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling approaches and commonly used software
  • Working knowledge of GIS and CADD software
  • Experience with proposal development
  • Experience with client management and business development
  • Familiarity with water resources data collection methodologies
  • Flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in civil or environmental engineering with a focus on hydrology, hydraulics, and/or water quality
  • 10+ years of experience in water resources engineering with a focus on hydrology, hydraulics, and/or water quality
  • Experience with complex water rights issues
  • Proven track record leading proposal development and projects along the Wasatch Front
  • Experience working with water conservation districts, irrigation, or water companies
  • Demonstrated success in business development and client management
  • Experience with GIS, CADD, hydrologic modeling, and 1D and 2D hydraulic modeling software, and water quality modeling
  • Strong technical skills in a broad range of civil engineering topics
  • Experience with site development design and plans and specifications
  • Construction observation, fieldwork, and surveying experience

Work Environment:

This position is based out of Barr's Salt Lake City, Utah, office. Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
