Job Summary

Summit Design and Engineering Services is seeking highly skilled Transportation Construction Inspectors to join our Construction Engineering Inspection team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of highway construction projects in the Wilmington area and throughout North Carolina.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of roadways and structures construction operations, performing calculations and computations as needed.
  • Perform materials sampling and testing to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Collect materials weigh tickets and conduct roadway tests to verify material quality and placement.
  • Monitor and perform inspections on complex and routine highway projects.
  • Maintain daily records of project activities and prepare monthly project estimates.
  • Take field measurements and calculate contract pay quantities for completed work items.
  • Read and interpret roadway, bridge, and structure plans and contract specifications.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Proficient in using iPad, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Dropbox, and/or OneDrive.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform required testing and maintain detailed reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with agency and contractor personnel and the general public.
  • Ability to read and interpret roadway, bridge, and structure plans and contract specifications.
  • Must be able to walk over rough terrain and stand for up to 12 hours a day.
  • Must have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and twist, use hands to grasp and arms to reach, to raise hands above head, to sit, climb, and balance, and to work in confined spaces and heights with adequate vision.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
  • Valid Driver's license with a good driving record and ability to drive.
Preferred Qualifications
  • NCDOT Concrete certification.
  • NCDOT QMS Roadway certification.
  • NCDOT Conventional Density certification.
  • NCDOT ABC Sampling certification.
  • NCDOT Borrow Pit Sampling certification.
  • NCDOT Level II Erosion & Sediment Control certification.
