CEI Roadway Inspector Job Description

S&ME is seeking a skilled CEI Roadway Inspector to join our Transportation team in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough inspections of highway construction projects to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate construction activities, including land clearing, earthwork, asphalt and concrete paving, structural bridge construction, and traffic control setups.
  • Collect and test construction materials to ensure they meet project quality and safety standards.
  • Compile detailed reports documenting inspection findings, project status, and contractor performance.
  • Perform precise calculations and maintain comprehensive records related to inspections, material quantities, and project timelines.
  • Review the installation and maintenance of erosion control devices to ensure compliance with environmental plans, regulations, and permits.
  • Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders to address project issues and updates.
  • Conduct surveys to verify compliance with Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) requirements.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma/GED and 2+ years of highway-related construction or inspection experience, or 2-year technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology with 1 year of highway-related construction experience.
  • At least two (2) active NCDOT-based certifications: QMS Roadway/Conventional Density/Concrete Field Technician/Erosion Control Level II and/or Nuclear Gauge.
  • Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language.
  • Ability to complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device.
  • Good math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure.
