This role is designated for candidates who are reachable on the appropriate Civil Service list for Food Service Worker II or are eligible for transfer.
Program Participation:
This position is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). During the NY HELPS Program, this role may be filled through a non-competitive appointment, meaning no examination is necessary; however, all applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the position.
Employment Structure:
Currently, agencies are permitted to recruit and hire employees through temporary appointments. If a temporary NY HELPS employee performs satisfactorily, their appointment may transition from temporary to permanent non-competitive status, pending Civil Service Commission Action, at which point the official probationary period will commence.
Future Employment Status:
Within one year of permanent appointment, it is anticipated that employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive status converted to competitive status without the need for an examination.
Employee Rights:
While serving in a permanent NY HELPS title, employees are eligible to participate in any promotional examinations for which they qualify.
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of relevant experience in commercial or institutional food preparation or food service is required.
Examples of Relevant Experience:
Experience in settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, school cafeterias, residential dining halls, restaurants, or diners, with responsibilities including food preparation, service, and supply ordering.
Qualification Substitution:
Formal training in culinary arts or food service that results in a certificate or degree may be considered in lieu of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Competencies:
Supervisory experience in institutional kitchen or food service operations. Proficiency in Meditech and Computrition. Strong understanding of HACCP procedures and safe food handling practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparation of food for meals.
- Supervision of Food Service Worker I staff.
- Participation in total quality management initiatives related to food quality and customer satisfaction.
- Documentation of supervisory and food preparation activities, including performance evaluations and HACCP-related records, along with other assigned duties.
All candidates must demonstrate the necessary competencies for this position.
