The Information Technology Infrastructure Division (ITID) is in search of a skilled Information Technology Specialist (Linux Engineer) to oversee the installation, security, monitoring, and maintenance of the Enterprise Linux framework. Key Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, and manage Linux servers (both physical and virtual), networks, and applications. Establish new baselines with appropriate security and access controls, including DISA Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIGS) and necessary security measures. Diagnose system issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Monitor system performance and optimize configurations for enhanced efficiency. Apply best practices to boost system performance. Automate system administration tasks utilizing scripts and tools such as Ansible, PERL, and shell scripting. Streamline processes to enhance productivity.
  • Oversee the installation, operation, and support of JBOSS application server/middleware environments. Ensure multi-factor authentication mechanisms are established for secure identification within the enterprise Windows infrastructure. Collaborate with vendors and developers to implement necessary fixes.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery strategies for Linux infrastructure. Ensure robust data backup and restoration protocols are in place. Apply security updates and patches to Linux systems using available tools.
  • Assess, implement, and enhance security protocols to safeguard against vulnerabilities. Collaborate with security teams to address any security findings or vulnerabilities and apply necessary fixes or updates.
  • Provide training and support to other IT personnel on Linux-related tasks. Collaborate effectively with technical and client teams. Ensure comprehensive technical documentation exists for all systems and is regularly updated. Documentation will include OS version and patch levels, hostnames, property numbers, IP addresses, enclave, number of cores, number of processors, admin passwords, certificates, and service accounts, system owner, and applications in use.
Employment Conditions

Qualifications

GS-13: Candidates must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as follows:
  • Experience in IT systems development, life cycles (i.e., systems documentation design development, and configuration management), automated and manual information processing systems, data sources, data flow, and interaction of existing IT systems regarding IT project work.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to interact with others, prepare reports, and deliver presentations. Ability to provide guidance and obtain support necessary to execute IT projects, goals, and initiatives.
  • Experience in engineering, modifying, and creating custom dashboards utilizing Linux solutions (i.e., Grafana, Zabbix) to monitor system health and configuration.
  • Experience in engineering, hardening, and deploying Linux baselines, provisioning new hardware, and delivering unique, customized scripting solutions for deploying Linux baseline images and software.
  • Experience in automating processes through Ansible Automation Platform templates and workflows. Develop and modify Ansible automation playbooks and roles utilizing YAML coding. Deploy and monitor Ansible automation workflows.
