Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team at Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH). As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will play a critical role in assisting physicians in the diagnosis of medical disorders by performing ultrasound scans on patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures assigned by the team facilitator, operating stationary and portable ultrasound units.
  • Explain examination procedures to patients and respond to their questions, utilizing and promoting AIDET concepts in all customer interactions.
  • Assist patients from wheelchairs to examining tables, ensuring patient privacy by properly covering patients and pulling privacy curtains during procedures.
  • Monitor patients' conditions frequently while in the Ultrasound area, reporting any critical changes to Radiologists or nurses.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to assess, treat, and care for all age groups of patients, implementing assessment/treatment/care based on developmental stages of patients.
  • Retrieve medications that are not controlled substances.
  • Enter correct patient demographics into ultrasound units, preparing and labeling ultrasound films with patients' names and medical record numbers, dates, and technologists' initials.
  • Maintain equipment and accessories, cleaning equipment on a regular basis and reporting broken and malfunctioning equipment to supervisors.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness in the Ultrasound area, ordering supplies or cleaning services as needed.
  • Assist in training technologists and students.
  • Share on-call responsibilities with other technologists.
Qualifications
  • The level of knowledge normally obtained through an accredited Ultrasound program, including clinical training.
  • All sonographers must be certified and currently registered as a RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer), RT(S), RT (VS) (American Registry of Radiologic Technology-Sonography/Vascular Sonography), RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) or RVS (Registered Vascular Specialist) or registry eligible.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in the correct use of body mechanics.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • The interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients who may be anxious or confused and to interact with physicians and other hospital staff.
  • The communication skills necessary to interact effectively with patients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the healthcare team, recognizing the special nature of sonographic examinations and patient needs.
  • Ability to work efficiently and cope with urgent and emergent situations.
  • The ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
