Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiac Sonographer to join our team at NorthShore University HealthSystem. As a key member of our Cardiac Services team, you will be responsible for performing non-invasive ultrasound scans of the patient's heart to assist physicians in the diagnosis of medical disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform cardiac diagnostic ultrasound procedures according to NCH protocol, including stress echos, dobutamine stress echos, transesophageal echos, and 2-D echo with color flow and spectral Doppler.
  • Operate stationary and portable ultrasound units, performing all tests in a timely manner and properly disinfecting equipment and transducers per established guidelines.
  • Coordinate testing with other departments to promote throughput and decrease length of stay.
  • Respond to all stat echocardiogram procedures in a timely manner, including on-call situations.
  • Perform pediatric echos as ordered and communicate with imaging staff at Lurie's in a clear and efficient manner.
  • Facilitate notification process and work collaboratively with NCH pediatric nursing floor staff, physicians, and Lurie's to coordinate prompt testing.
  • Monitor patient's condition frequently while in the cardiac diagnostic area and report any critical changes in the patient's condition to the appropriate personnel.
Requirements
  • Current registration in Cardiac Sonographer/Echo RDCS, RCS, or registry eligible.
  • Previous cardiac experience with neonates and pediatrics preferred.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in the correct use of body mechanics.
  • Current CPR certification.
Working Conditions

This position requires moderate physical effort, including continuous standing and walking, and may require frequent lifting or moving of average weight material and occasionally lifting, moving or pulling heavy weight material in difficult work positions.
