Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Instructional Plans: Create and implement personalized academic plans for students, taking into account their transcripts, assessment data, career pathway planning, post-secondary goals, and progress towards those goals.
  • Establish a Positive Learning Environment: Model positive and respectful behavior, uphold high academic expectations, and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Meet with Students and Parents: Meet with students at scheduled appointment dates and times, conduct effective student appointments, and engage students in goal-setting, monitoring progress, and preparation for completion of graduation requirements.
  • Assign Courses and Refer Students: Assign appropriate courses of study, refer students to core subject area teachers when necessary, and establish and communicate learning objectives and content standards to be assessed.
  • Plan and Deliver Instruction: Plan, prepare for, and deliver instructional activities to facilitate learning experiences, provide a variety of learning materials and resources to support independent learning, and identify and implement instructional strategies and resources to meet students' varying needs.
  • Monitor Progress and Provide Feedback: Regularly check for understanding, provide clarifying and/or enrichment information, grade course homework, projects, and tests, and provide students with meaningful feedback to enhance learning and improve achievement.
  • Collaborate with Colleagues: Collaborate with colleagues to improve teaching practices through professional learning communities, student study teams, department meetings, and student retention meetings.
  • Participate in Professional Development: Participate in Professional Development opportunities as needed and follow established policies and procedures for reporting incidents.
Requirements
  • Valid California Teaching Credential: Possess a valid California Single Subject or Multiple Subject teaching credential in the area of specialization or be intern eligible.
  • Education and Experience: Hold a Bachelor's degree with a major or minor in the designated subject, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements, and have experience working with students, parents, and staff members in providing a rigorous educational program.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Possess thorough knowledge of California Teaching Standards, educational trends, research, and technology to support learning, and be able to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student learning needs.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Be able to communicate effectively, including giving clear and concise instructions, using academic language, and listening without bias and providing appropriate feedback/reinforcement.
Working Conditions

The English Teacher will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with frequent deadline pressures and will be required to multitask, change task priorities, and perform repetitious exacting work. The position will also involve working in a noisy, distracting environment.
