Position Summary:

Level One: Responsible for inspecting forged bars, rings, and rough machined components to verify adherence to specifications, supporting the Chief Inspector while performing tasks with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interprets blueprints or engineering specifications to gather product details, including specified materials, surface finishes, and dimensions.
  • Evaluates the surface finish of workpieces against standard blocks, ensuring compliance with specified surface quality.
  • Measures dimensions such as length, height, and distance between reference points to confirm product specifications.
  • Identifies reference points on components and measures angles, arcs, and other critical dimensions.
  • Communicates findings to the Inspection Supervisor and prepares Inspection Deviation Reports (IDR) for non-conforming parts.
  • Sets up and tests inspection equipment to ensure operational accuracy.
  • Utilizes known values from blueprints to calculate unknown dimensions using standard formulas.
  • Operates portable CMM and related equipment as necessary.
  • Employs forklifts and cranes for the movement of heavy materials.

Required Skills:

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting safety rules, operating instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Capable of composing routine reports and correspondence.
  • Adept at performing calculations involving discounts, interest, proportions, and other mathematical concepts.
  • Knowledgeable in basic algebra and geometry principles.
  • Skilled in solving practical problems with various concrete variables in non-standardized situations.
  • Ability to understand and follow multiple forms of instructions, whether written, oral, or diagrammatic.

Experience & Education:

  • High School diploma or GED; or five years of relevant experience and training; or a combination of education and experience.
