Role Summary:
The Healthcare Administrative Leader is responsible for facilitating efficient and safe patient flow while providing off-shift management and operational oversight within the acute care hospital environment, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a clinical resource for nursing units and allied health departments, assisting with problem-solving during assigned shifts.
- Ensure safe and timely patient flow throughout the facility and coordinate inter-system transfers.
- Engage in clinical observation and assessment of patients as necessary to determine appropriate care levels and placements.
- Oversee staffing resources in collaboration with department leadership and the corporate staffing office.
- Maintain a visible and collaborative leadership presence throughout the facility during shifts.
- Respond as a first responder to all emergency code events and house alerts.
- Document patient census, events, and flow outcomes per shift, utilizing databases, bed management programs, and electronic health records proficiently.
- Serve as a leadership resource for Orlando Health policies, procedures, legal and risk issues, and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Address and resolve concerns from team members, patients, family members, and providers, ensuring appropriate follow-up.
- Provide support, education, coaching, and mentoring to team members.
- Assist personnel and families in situations surrounding patient death, facilitating arrangements for autopsies, organ/tissue donation, and referrals to the Medical Examiner.
- Act as the central intake for patient matters related to the American Disability Act, language, and cultural issues, facilitating necessary assistance within the facility.
- Manage human resource functions, including interviewing, onboarding, evaluating personnel, and issuing corrective actions as needed.
- Provide crisis management support and coordinate follow-up actions with the Administrator-on-Call (AOC).
- Serve as the Incident Commander for all HICS events until the hospital administrator arrives on-site.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance in accordance with Orlando Health policies and applicable standards.
- Ensure compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Communication and Relationship Management:
Demonstrate effective communication skills, both oral and written, and build collaborative relationships with staff, engaging them in decision-making processes and exhibiting effective conflict resolution skills.
Knowledge of the Healthcare Environment:
Showcase knowledge of current nursing practices, roles, and functions of team members, as well as patient care policies and procedures, and adhere to state and federal standards.
Leadership:
Exhibit foundational thinking skills, applying critical analysis to organizational issues and demonstrating systems thinking in problem-solving and decision-making.
Qualifications:
Education/Training:
Graduate from an accredited nursing school; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
Current professional license as a registered nurse in the State of Florida; National Certification in specialty area within two years; Current BLS; specialty area certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NALS, or TNCC as required.
Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a registered nurse in an acute care setting; leadership, critical care, or emergency experience preferred.
