Role Summary:
The L3 AIX Managed Services Specialist is tasked with delivering high-level technical support and management for AIX systems. This position encompasses monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvement of the AIX environment to guarantee optimal availability, performance, and security. The ideal candidate will have extensive technical knowledge in AIX, along with exceptional problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work autonomously.
Core Responsibilities:
System Management:
• Conduct daily administration and upkeep of AIX systems.
• Oversee and evaluate system performance, capacity, and availability.
• Establish and uphold backup and recovery protocols.
Technical Assistance:
• Deliver L3 support for intricate AIX challenges, including hardware and software troubleshooting.
• Manage and resolve issues in HMC LPARed environments.
• Collaborate with L1 and L2 support teams to address escalated problems.
• Mentor and guide junior team members.
System Updates and Maintenance:
• Strategize and implement system upgrades, patches, and firmware enhancements.
• Ensure all systems are current with the latest security updates and patches.
Security Oversight:
• Develop and enforce security policies and procedures to safeguard AIX systems.
• Conduct regular security evaluations and vulnerability assessments.
• Address security incidents and breaches promptly.
Performance Enhancement:
• Review system performance metrics and apply optimization techniques.
• Adjust system configurations for peak performance.
Documentation and Analysis:
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and modifications.
• Create and present periodic reports on system performance, issues, and resolutions.
Disaster Recovery Planning:
• Formulate, test, and sustain disaster recovery strategies.
• Ensure systems can be swiftly and effectively restored following a disaster.
Qualifications:
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Experience:
• At least 5 years of experience in AIX system administration or L3 technical support.
• Demonstrated success in managing complex AIX environments.
Essential Technical Skills:
• In-depth knowledge of AIX hardware, operating systems, and software.
• Proficient in shell scripting and automation tools.
• Familiarity with system monitoring and management applications.
• Strong grasp of network protocols, storage, and virtualization technologies.
• Understanding of security best practices and compliance standards.
• Experience with AS400/iSeries is advantageous.
• Proficient in troubleshooting and managing HMC LPARed environments.
Interpersonal Skills:

Preferred Certifications:
• IBM Certified System Administrator – AIX
