Job Title: Security Officer II

Carlsbad By the Sea is a continuing care resort-style retirement community located in the beautiful city of Carlsbad. We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Security Officer II to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Security Officer II will provide security services for residents and employees of the organization. This includes protecting against and responding to fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. The successful candidate will also be responsible for training security staff and ensuring that other command center staff are aware of emergency procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide quality customer service to residents, families, co-workers, and vendors in a manner that ensures satisfaction.
  • Train new security staff and be qualified to work any shift necessary to accomplish this task.
  • Periodically patrol outside grounds of the campus and lobbies, corridors, and public rooms of the facility to ensure safety and security of residents and staff.
  • Warn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and advise reports or expel persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts.
  • Assist the Care Center with emergency maintenance issues or resident concerns, respond to fire alarms, emergency call switch activation, and other emergencies.
  • Assist the clinic when necessary, including escorting nurses and lifting residents who fall and direct medical personnel on the scene of the emergency.
  • Investigate and complete resident loss reports and incident reports during each shift, give copies to the supervisor, and maintain a file on them.
  • Perform emergency janitorial duties and maintenance duties when needed, set thermostatic controls to maintain specified temperature in buildings or cold storage rooms.
  • Review emergency response procedures with nursing staff and front desk staff when necessary because that staff may be new or may be from an agency and unfamiliar with the facilities established procedures.
  • Demonstrate competency in all aspects of security issues as determined by the security supervisor.
  • May be required to drive company non-commercial vehicles.
  • Familiar with all disaster, fire, and other emergency procedures as outlined in the facility disaster plan.
  • Perform emergency delivery procedures, place flyers on resident doors or campus-wide.
  • Perform other duties as required, which may arise unforeseen.
  • Follow department safety standards, practice correct body mechanic techniques, and participate in campus-wide safety programs.
  • Perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner. Wear PPE/safety equipment as required for the job. Report any safety hazards and/or accidents to the supervisor.
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • 1-year certificate from college or technical school; or 3-6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess current First Aid/CPR proficiency certificate, have a valid driver's license, and a current DMV print-out with less than 3 points meeting company driving standards to be an authorized driver of company vehicles.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's; ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to analyze situations and present observations and recommendations to the supervisor and other staff; ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized and non-standardized situations.
