Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Security Officer to join our team at the Gemological Institute of America. As a Security Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our staff, students, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Security and Surveillance: Maintain vigilance for unusual or suspicious individuals or situations, monitor and operate surveillance, access control, and intrusion detection equipment, and ensure its functionality by promptly reporting issues and getting those resolved at the earliest.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations, administer first-aid as required, assist in evacuation and crowd control in the event of an emergency, and respond to fire, safety, and security alarms following set protocols.
  • Communication and Customer Service: Act as a trusted point of contact for personnel, students, vendors, and the public, provide excellent customer service, and maintain a professional and courteous demeanor.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Log observations regarding security, safety, and maintenance-related issues, and provide written and verbal reports as required.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certifications and Licenses: Must obtain/renew California Security Guard License (at the time of hire), First Aid certification (immediately after hire), and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillation (CPR & AED) certification.
  • Physical Requirements: Tasks are performed both in a professional office environment and outdoors, including standing, walking, sitting, lifting, and driving a company vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Security Experience: Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Excel, knowledge of CCTV, access control, intruder alarm, and fire alarm handling.
