**Primary Role**: Accountable for utilizing GIS technology to develop and sustain spatial and attribute data while leading quality assurance and quality control initiatives for American Water's GIS data.

**Key Responsibilities**:

  • Employ GIS technology to generate and uphold spatial and attribute data in accordance with standard operating procedures and GIS editing best practices.
  • Mentor and train GIS Technicians on water and wastewater network structures; assist Technicians in applying their knowledge to create and maintain American Water GIS data, as well as proper editing techniques and workflows, and interpreting and processing source GIS inputs.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of quality assurance processes and procedures that enhance the quality of GIS data.
  • Oversee and execute Quality Control checks, and report on any quality issues identified.
  • Continuously enhance GIS expertise by participating in workshops, training sessions, or vendor presentations that introduce new or evolving GIS technologies, with a focus on QAQC of GIS data.
  • Assist in the formulation of GIS standard practices and procedures. Engage in user committees within American Water to share GIS expertise.
  • Adhere to and promote standard operating procedures and GNSS best practices.
  • Provide proactive feedback to the state GIS lead, while also soliciting input and feedback from fellow team members.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

**Knowledge/Skills**:

  • Ability to conduct thorough reviews and evaluations, making timely decisions and recommendations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of water and wastewater network structures and the ability to apply that knowledge to the creation and maintenance of American Water GIS data.
  • Solid foundation in GIS methodologies, Esri software, geocoding techniques, data model formats, and data conversion practices.
  • Familiarity with GIS workflows, including desktop mapping, editing, QAQC, and web and database applications.
  • Experience working in a versioned network environment.
  • Proficient in interpreting and processing various source GIS inputs, including GNSS data, construction as-builts (CAD and PDF), field sketches/comments (web submitted, paper, and/or verbal), and tabular data.
  • Basic understanding of QAQC for GIS data, including industry best practices and knowledge of available Esri QAQC tools.
  • Proficient in the Esri ArcGIS suite of products, particularly ArcMap and/or ArcGIS Pro, focusing on creating and editing GIS data, as well as QAQC techniques and best practices.

**Experience/Education**:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in GIS; utility experience preferred.

**Travel Requirements**:

  • Occasional local travel; rare national travel (e.g., User's conference, etc.)

**Work Environment**:

  • Indoor and outdoor settings.

**Other**:

  • Valid Driver's License and ability to pass a motor vehicle background check.
