Marine Equipment TechnicianJob Overview: As a Marine Equipment Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of vessels by installing, maintaining, repairing, and operating various mechanical equipment. Your expertise will be essential in keeping ships running efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities- Install, maintain, and repair mechanical systems on board ships, including engines, generators, pumps, valves, and hydraulics.
- Interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics to accurately understand equipment layout, assembly, and installation procedures.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues, developing effective solutions to restore functionality.
- Conduct routine maintenance on machinery to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.
- Fabricate and repair parts using precision machine tools such as lathes, mills, and gauges.
- Operate heavy equipment like cranes and forklifts to move parts and machinery safely and efficiently.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to maintain a secure working environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent; Military, vocational, or technical training in machine technology, mechanical engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience as a machinist in a shipyard or marine environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical systems, including diesel engines, hydraulics, and other marine equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation with accuracy.
- Proficiency in operating machine tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Experience operating heavy machinery such as cranes and forklifts.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to precision work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team effectively.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
- Capacity to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
