Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer to join our team at Naval Facilities Engineering Command. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing civil engineering projects, including budgeting, design drawings, plans, specifications, and design-build requests for proposals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Producing and developing civil engineering design packages, including budgeting, design drawings, plans, specifications, and design-build requests for proposals in areas such as potable water, stormwater, and sanitary sewer system design, grading, and roadway design, geotechnical analysis, and surveying.
  • Reviewing civil engineering design submissions to provide subject matter expert acceptance recommendations to officials.
  • Providing a wide range of shore-based engineering projects in relation to site developments, roads, airfields, water supply, sewer systems, drainage, dredging, waste facilities, shore protection, and other large/industrial civil engineering projects.
  • Providing civil engineering design consultation services utilizing software/systems such as AutoCAD, Western Washington Hydrology Model, Civil 3D, and hydrologic modeling software.
  • Providing guidance with construction code requirements such as the International Building Code, International Plumbing Code, and Civil Engineering-related code requirements.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong background in civil engineering, with a minimum of one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

You will also need to have a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), or include differential and integral calculus and courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: statics, dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical fields and circuits, and nature and properties of materials.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico is also required.

Work Environment

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Travel to CONUS and OCONUS activities for assigned projects is required, with occasional site visits and exposures to conditions in buildings and facilities that are under construction. Travel under demanding conditions in support of military operations is also occasionally required.

The percentage of travel is 15%.
