Job Overview

Work Schedule: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with on-call responsibilities

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The primary objective of this role is to oversee and respond to offenders assigned to Home Detention, focusing on community safety, risk mitigation, and decreasing repeat offenses. This position operates under the directives of the local judiciary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a mobile communication device to promptly address potential breaches of Home Detention.
  • Conduct unannounced and/or requested visits to the residences of offenders under supervision.
  • Report any violations of Home Detention to the appropriate judicial authorities and document the responses taken.
  • Perform supervision tasks including monitoring activities, managing substance abuse referrals, conducting urine tests, maintaining records, collecting fees, and ensuring timely communication with offenders.
  • Engage in court-related duties such as providing testimony, making case recommendations, collaborating with legal representatives, and preparing necessary documentation.
  • Execute field responsibilities, including home inspections, searches of residences and vehicles, verifying employment, and assisting law enforcement as needed.
  • Conduct background checks using state databases.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in case management systems.
  • Adhere to certification requirements for alcohol and drug programs as mandated by state authorities.
  • Complete necessary risk assessments and comply with state regulations.
  • Follow all procedural guidelines set forth by the Probation Department.
  • Collaborate with various county agencies and adhere to the Judicial Code of Conduct.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • May require carrying a firearm and meeting qualifications as per law enforcement guidelines.
  • Operate county vehicles in compliance with state laws.
  • Perform other assigned tasks as necessary.

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution, preferably in Social Sciences.
  • Certification as a Probation Officer from the relevant state authority.
  • Certification in substance abuse management.
  • Proficiency in various software applications.
  • Strong communication and motivational interviewing skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply state statutes.
  • Capacity to manage diverse and evolving priorities independently.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position involves working in an office setting, in court, and in the field. The role carries inherent risks associated with potential confrontations. After-hours communication may be required.
