Probation Officer: P&P District #14 Danville

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Probation Officer to join our team in Danville, Virginia. As a Probation Officer, you will be responsible for supervising and monitoring probationers from courts and the Parole Board, enhancing public safety through supervision, follow-up, and the use of community resources. You will assess the criminogenic and treatment needs of probationers, apply evidence-based practices, and collaborate with probationers, districts, and community resources to develop and manage individualized treatment plans.
Key Responsibilities- Provide day-to-day supervision to probationers who require intensive and regular probation/parole/post-release supervision.
- Assess the criminogenic and treatment needs of probationers.
- Apply evidence-based practices, including effective communication skills, principles, and techniques to promote internal change within probationers.
- Collaborate with probationers, districts, and community resources to develop and manage individualized treatment plans.
- Make home and community contacts in accordance with case needs and supervision plans.
- Prepare Pre-sentence Investigations, sentencing guidelines, and other reports as assigned in a timely manner.
- Testify and provide sentencing recommendations to the court/attorney.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
- Individual counseling experience/casework with adults, including direct delivery of services.
- Working knowledge of the criminal justice system, case management, and counseling techniques.
- Ability to write reports and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Capable of independent judgment and action.
- Ability to work with diverse groups of probationers, co-workers, and community-based professionals.
- Advanced knowledge in Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, Sociology/Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related human services field.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
