Key Responsibilities
  • Attend to the physical needs of students and assist those with special needs.
  • Maintain accurate records, including grades and homework assignments, as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist with routine classroom preparation duties, such as creating student folders, charts, and bulletin boards.
  • Help set up the classroom by distributing and gathering materials and equipment.
  • Assist teachers in demonstrating the proper use of vocational tools and equipment.
  • Correct standardized objective tests.
  • Supervise and monitor classes when the teacher is out of the room.
  • Relieve teachers of study hall, corridor, lunchroom, and other monitorial duties.
  • Help maintain discipline and structure within the classroom.
  • Make photocopies of materials for classes and lessons.
  • Provide a positive example to students in areas such as cleanliness and proper manners.
  • Assist teachers in helping students stay focused and participate in class.
  • Assist with routine classroom housekeeping chores.
  • Organize and participate in group games and related activities.
  • Read and tell stories to children.
  • Assist in implementing good behavior management routines and techniques.
  • Take attendance and lunch counts.
  • Assist teachers in helping students prepare for dismissal.
  • Escort students to and from buses, classrooms, bathroom, and lunchroom.
  • May assist teachers in proctoring tests.
  • May assist teachers and students in selecting materials in the library.
  • May assist teachers and students in computer operation.
  • May write down homework and take class notes for students.
