Job Overview

Located at the Waterloo IA Center of Excellence, the Production Control Manager is tasked with the crucial role of formulating and overseeing production planning and scheduling in alignment with customer demand and sales projections. This position collaborates closely with operations supervisors to optimize the utilization of existing manufacturing capabilities while identifying future requirements that may necessitate capacity expansions and workforce planning.

In addition, the Production Control Manager will partner with the procurement team to establish necessary material planning and inventory levels to satisfy demand effectively. This role also involves leading the cycle counting team to ensure inventory accuracy and enforce proper process controls and procedures for managing company inventory.

This position supports a robust aftermarket business and the production of new heavy industrial equipment. Occasional travel may be necessary to engage with suppliers and other facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the sales and operations planning process.
  • Coordinate production capacity and material planning, purchasing, warehousing, and scheduling activities to enhance the machine build plan.
  • Generate a comprehensive 12-month master schedule and forecast, along with weekly and daily schedules by area.
  • Identify production bottlenecks and modify material plans to mitigate delays.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to schedule orders, define lead times, and allocate capacity.
  • Establish and implement best practices related to inventory forecasting, purchasing, material control, and scheduling.
  • Lead the organization in achieving key performance metrics, including on-time delivery, schedule adherence, inventory turnover, and days on hand.
  • Understand and contribute to departmental key performance indicators, both individually and as part of a team.
  • Work with purchasing to develop and implement supplier strategies ensuring timely delivery, quality, and supply flow.
  • Forecast product requirements by collecting, analyzing, and validating data.
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships within and outside the organization.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment by aligning company policies with health and safety regulations.
  • Evaluate and measure the performance of direct reports according to company standards for quality and productivity, providing timely and meaningful feedback.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in manufacturing, supply chain, or inventory management.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing capacity, including the ability to calculate capacity per machine and optimize resources for maximum production output.
  • Proven experience in leading cross-functional teams and driving operational excellence.
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage budgets and forecast costs.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to think innovatively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present technical information clearly.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to service excellence.
  • Detail-oriented with a holistic approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to break down complex issues and redesign processes as necessary.
