As a pivotal member of the Health and Biosciences division, the Lead Fermentation Engineer will spearhead the development and optimization of fermentation processes. This role is essential in bridging the gap between innovative discovery and efficient manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and mentor a dedicated team of fermentation engineers and scientists, ensuring the production of high-quality products through advanced bacterial and fungal systems.
- Lead complex project teams, utilizing technical expertise to manage diverse project portfolios.
- Analyze intricate engineering and biological challenges, employing a thorough evaluation of data to identify root causes.
- Provide expert guidance in troubleshooting fermentation issues, enhancing process reliability.
- Engage in the execution of scale-up and scale-down methodologies, including the design and analysis of experimental frameworks.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional leaders and team members to achieve project objectives efficiently.
- Conduct experiments independently to drive project advancements and explore innovative technical concepts that align with business goals.
- Contribute to strain and process enhancement initiatives through various methodologies, including evolution screening and small-scale assays.
- Document experimental findings, deliver technical presentations, and generate comprehensive reports for technical, legal, and regulatory purposes.
- Enhance personal and team expertise through ongoing scientific literature review and professional networking.
- Identify and propose solutions for deficiencies in existing research methodologies and systems.
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in relevant Engineering or Biosciences disciplines with a minimum of 9 years of industry experience, or a Master's degree with at least 12 years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree with 16 years of experience. A minimum of 3 years in a managerial role is required.
Demonstrated expertise in microbial physiology through publications or intellectual property is essential. Candidates should exhibit strong communication skills, organizational abilities, and a proactive approach to project leadership. Experience in commercial-scale fermentation processes and statistical analysis is highly valued.
Preferred Skills:
Experience in enzyme, food, synthetic biology, or microbiome sectors is advantageous. Familiarity with aerobic and anaerobic fermentation processes, as well as automation and process control, will be considered a plus.
