Job Title: Driver

General Dynamics NASSCO is seeking a skilled Driver to join our team. As a Driver, you will be responsible for the safe operation of a bus, truck, or other vehicle over established routes or within an established territory.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate a passenger bus transporting employees
  • Drive trucks, according to state regulations, to transport and deliver cargo or material
  • Maintain telephone contact with base or supervisor to receive instructions or be dispatched to new locations
  • Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to bases or other vehicles, using telephones or mobile two-way radios
  • Obey all traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures
  • Read maps and follow written and verbal geographic directions
  • Maintain records such as DOT vehicle logs, records of cargo, or billing statements in accordance with regulations
  • Load and unload trucks, vans, or automobiles
  • Verify the contents of inventory loads against shipping papers
  • Present bills and receipts, and collect payments for goods delivered or loaded
  • Turn in receipts received from deliveries
  • Attach fastening systems, position blocks, and coverings around and over items to prevent damage to cargo or others during transport
  • Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment, such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights, and brakes, to ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition
  • Clean, inspect, and service vehicles and report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles
Requirements:
  • Typically has a High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience as a bus driver and delivery person and be very familiar with the local area where expected to drive
  • Must have a current Class B Commercial Drivers License that meets NASSCO's Insurance requirements
  • Must have an excellent driving record
  • Must be able to gain access to all government facilities as required
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Must be reliable and maintain consistent work attendance
Working Relationships:

Reports to the Warehouse Manager

Accountability:

Accountable to the Warehouse Manager for all aspects of department administration and operation. Interacts internally with other departments and externally with vendors and customers.
